This text compare tool shows every added, removed and changed word between two versions in seconds. Switch between word, line and character mode, ignore case, spaces or punctuation, and keep contracts and code private: the comparison runs in your browser.
Paste two texts to see what changed.
A text compare tool, also called a diff checker, takes two versions of a text and highlights what was added, removed or changed between them. The word “diff” comes from the Unix diff utility, first released in 1974, and the same idea still powers GNU diffutils and git diff.
Use this text compare to see exactly what changed between two versions of the same document: a contract after the other side’s edits, an article after the client’s review, a config file after an update. The tool checks wording. Comparing the ideas or style of two different works, as a literature class does, is a different task.
To compare two texts, paste the original on the left, paste the new version on the right and read the highlighted result below. The result updates as you type.
Red marks text that exists only in the original, green marks text that exists only in the new version, and everything without color is identical in both.
Compare by words for prose, by lines for code and structured data, and by characters for short strings where a single letter matters. In every mode the tool first aligns the two texts line by line, then marks what changed inside each changed line.

Best forCode, config files, CSV, lists
ExampleOne setting changed in a .env file
Best forShort strings, IDs, URLs, typos

Lines mode marks each changed line as a whole, without highlights inside it, which keeps long code diffs easy to scan.
Turn on an ignore option when a difference is technically real but irrelevant to your task, so the result shows only the changes you care about.
Ignored differences stay in the text itself. They are simply not highlighted and not counted as changes.
Anyone who works with more than one version of a text uses a text diff, from lawyers checking contract edits to developers reviewing a config change.
.htaccess, .env or JSON file when no version control is at hand. New redirect rules come ready from the 301 Redirect Generator. With this tool, yes: the comparison runs in your browser, and the texts you paste are never sent to a server, stored or turned into a shareable link.
Many online diff tools process texts on their servers and keep saved comparisons behind public links. Here the algorithm runs locally, and closing the tab clears both fields, so the tool suits contracts, source code and documents under an NDA.
One rule applies to every online tool, this one included: remove passwords, API keys and card numbers before you paste a text anywhere.
Paste the original text on the left and the new version on the right, and the differences appear below at once: removed text in red, added text in green. Choose Words, Lines or Characters to set how precise the highlight is.
A diff checker is a tool that compares two texts and shows what changed between them. The name comes from diff, a Unix utility from 1974. This text compare uses the Myers diff algorithm from 1986, the same approach behind git diff.
Yes. Press the upload icon above either field or drag a file onto it. Plain text formats work, including .txt, .md, .csv, .json, .xml, .html, .js and .srt files up to 5 MB each. Files are read in your browser and never uploaded.
Only their text. The tool compares plain text, so formatting, images and comments are left out: copy the text from each document into the two fields. To compare formatting too, use Compare Documents on the Review tab in Microsoft Word.
No. The comparison runs entirely in your browser, and the texts are never sent to a server, saved in a database or shared through a link. Closing the tab clears both fields, and nobody at Ideluma can see what you compared.
Red marks text that is only in the original, green marks text that is only in the new version, and text without color is the same in both. Darker red or green inside a line points to the exact words that changed.
Compare by words for articles, contracts and emails, where only the edited words should light up. Compare by lines for code, CSV and lists, where each line is a unit. Characters mode works best for short strings such as IDs and URLs.
Usually because of invisible characters: double spaces, tabs, trailing or non-breaking spaces from another editor. Turn on Ignore spaces to hide them. Straight and curly quotes also count as different characters, and Ignore punctuation hides that change too.
There is no fixed limit on text length, and files open up to 5 MB each. Up to 300,000 characters in total, the result updates as you type; above that, press Compare. Huge texts that differ almost everywhere are shown as fully replaced.
No. This tool compares two versions of the same text and highlights the words and lines that changed. A compare-and-contrast essay analyses the themes, style and ideas of two different works, which is a job for a reader.
