This favicon generator turns one image, or a letter or emoji, into every icon a website needs in 2026: favicon.ico, an SVG favicon, the Apple touch icon and Android icons, packed in a ZIP with ready-to-paste HTML. It all happens in your browser.
A favicon is the small icon that represents a website in browser tabs, bookmarks, history, Google search results and phone home screens. The name comes from “favorite icon”, introduced by Internet Explorer 5 in 1999.
A favicon is a separate file from your logo. It has to read at 16 pixels, so it is usually one letter, a symbol or a simplified mark. Google also shows it next to your pages in search results, and its requirements are described in Define a favicon to show in search results. This favicon generator creates the web set; icons for App Store or Google Play apps follow other rules and are not part of it.
To generate a favicon, upload a square image, adjust the padding and background, check the preview and download the ZIP. Nothing leaves your computer at any step.
Use a 32×32 favicon.ico, an SVG favicon, a 180×180 Apple touch icon and 192×192 plus 512×512 PNG icons for Android. Start from a square image of at least 512×512 pixels.

This is the recommended minimal set. Long lists of 20 or 30 sizes for old Windows tiles are no longer needed. The ZIP also includes icon-maskable-512.png, a version with extra padding that Android can crop into a circle, and the favicon.svg file appears when you start from an SVG or from text.
Upload the files to the root folder of your site, then paste these four lines into the head section of every page:
<link rel="icon" href="/favicon.ico" sizes="32x32">
<link rel="icon" href="/favicon.svg" type="image/svg+xml">
<link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="/apple-touch-icon.png">
<link rel="manifest" href="/site.webmanifest">
Copy HTML gives you the exact code for your set. When you start from a PNG or JPG, the SVG line is left out because there is no SVG file. You can paste the snippet into the HTML Editor to check the markup before it goes live.
On WordPress, go to Appearance → Customize → Site Identity → Site Icon and upload the 512 × 512 icon. WordPress then creates its own sizes and adds the tags for you.
An ICO file is a container that holds several PNG images of different sizes, so one favicon.ico can serve 16, 32 and 48 pixels at once. Browsers still request /favicon.ico from the root of a site automatically, even when the page has no link tag.
That is why a PNG favicon alone is not enough. Download favicon.ico works as an ico converter: it turns your PNG, JPG or SVG into a real multi-size ICO file in the browser, so there is no need for a separate converter.
A favicon is shown at 16 pixels far more often than at any other size, so design for that size first.
Use a 32×32 favicon.ico with 16 and 48 pixel sizes inside, an SVG favicon, a 180×180 Apple touch icon and 192×192 plus 512×512 PNG icons. Start from a square image of at least 512×512 pixels and let the generator create the smaller sizes.
favicon.ico is the classic favicon file in the ICO format, which stores several image sizes in one file. Browsers look for it at /favicon.ico in the root of every site, so it works as a fallback even when a page has no favicon tag.
Drop the PNG into this favicon generator and press Download favicon.ico. The tool creates an ICO file with 16, 32 and 48 pixel versions inside, right in your browser. The PNG is never uploaded, and there is no limit on how many files you convert.
Yes. Modern browsers can use SVG and PNG favicons, but many tools, feed readers and older browsers still request /favicon.ico. Keeping a 32×32 ICO in the root costs a few kilobytes and removes 404 errors from your server logs.
Open Appearance → Customize → Site Identity and upload a square image of at least 512×512 pixels as the Site Icon. WordPress creates the sizes and adds the tags. To use this full set instead, upload the files to the site root and paste the HTML into the header.
Most often the browser still shows a cached icon. Reload the page with Ctrl+Shift+R, or add a version to the file name, such as favicon.ico?v=2. Also check that the file path is right and that robots.txt doesn’t block the favicon.
It can take several days or longer. Google has to recrawl your homepage and the favicon file before it updates search results. Keep the favicon at a stable URL, square and at least 48×48 pixels, as the Google Search guidelines describe.
Yes. Chrome, Firefox and Edge support SVG favicons, which stay sharp at every size and can adapt to dark mode with CSS inside the file. Keep favicon.ico as well for browsers and tools that don’t read SVG. This generator creates favicon.svg from SVG files and from text.
Yes. Switch the source to Text and type one or two letters or an emoji, then pick the font, text color and background. The generator creates the same set of files, including a true vector favicon.svg, so the icon stays sharp at every size.
No. The favicon generator runs entirely in your browser: the image is read, resized and packed into the ZIP on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, so you can use it for logos of unreleased products and client work.
No. These icons are made for websites and web apps. The App Store needs a 1024×1024 icon without transparency, and Google Play has its own set, both uploaded through their developer consoles. Use the 512 pixel icon as a starting point, not as the final app icon.
